You may have seen the Allergy Travels logo, visited our website, or read one of our Facebook posts, but we are not just a website – we are a team, a community and we want you to join us!
We are here for you whether you’re backpacking Europe, or attending a conference in Asia, and we’ll be here for you in the future if it’s still too early to think about international travel.
Our site is growing every day with more reviews for countries and airlines, topics and questions on our forum and tip sharing on Facebook and Instagram. We want you to join us as we all have something to offer to help others. Whether you had a positive experience on an airline, or discovered a surprising detail about a foreign cuisine while overseas, the more we share the better.
Our Allergy Travels story
In the summer of 2016, four people connected with other who all had a passion for traveling with food allergies. We had a common goal in wanting to help people with food allergies find credible and helpful information on countries and airlines before they travel. Essentially, we were all getting frustrated hunting in multiple sources for basic information. Local emergency numbers, food labeling guidelines, common allergens, airline allergy policies – why can’t that all be in one place?
The four of us come from 3 different countries, deal with a combined list of 30 allergies, and all are bloggers and community leaders online. We are parents of allergic children, allergic adults, allergy educators, and avid globetrotters!
When the website went live in August 2017, we couldn’t have been prouder. We celebrated with a “virtual cheers” over Skype with a champagne glass each! Not too long ago we were all complete strangers. We have since become great friends, a dynamic team and have started meeting each other and even traveling together.
You can do it too!
During the months following the website launch, we were surprised by what people valued most about the website. Yes, the credible data and reviews were appreciated, but there was an intangible inspiration flowing from the site. The people featured and their stories were empowering people to travel themselves with food allergies. An underlying theme of “it can be done” started to seep throughout the website. It can take years before an individual or family truly feels comfortable traveling with a food allergy. To think that this website is opening doors to people and helping with that process is deeply gratifying and humbling.
That’s why we started growing our team to include some truly inspiring people that we call the Food Allergy Trailblazers. They are a group of courageous globetrotters who have a boundless sense of adventure, and top notch strategies when it comes to preparedness for managing their food allergies abroad.
